Sara Carr is the stylist and extensions specialist behind Canvas Hair Boutique by Sara Lyn and the creator of some of the funniest Instagram reels you'll ever watch. Inspired by the creative and talented stylists she sees all over social media, Sara's favorite thing about being a stylist is Picture Time!
Fellow stylists keep Sara motivated to keep learning and striving for better. She attends one "major" education opportunity each year and takes multiple local and online courses to keep up with current trends. The Foundation Method has been a game changer for her business, herself and her guests. As a certified colorist, one of Sara's top skills is color matching to her own custom colors. Color matching to natural hair was intimidating at first, but now Sara considers it one of her strongest skills.
After graduating college and starting in the event planning industry, she realized the corporate world didn't feed her soul. With encouragement from her husband, she finally went to cosmetology school. At 26, Sara took the plunge and hasn't looked back for even a second!
She took an apprenticeship under the top stylist at her first salon. Together, they were a great fit. Sara felt confident in client relations because of all her experience in customer service and hospitality, but this mentor/stylist helped her gain confidence in her behind-the-chair skills. They both took Redken Color Certification, which Sara credits as the foundation of her color knowledge.
Once she completed her apprenticeship, she worked at the salon for over 3 years, had a brief return to the corporate world because of non-compete agreement and then joined a new, small salon where she advanced to senior stylist with an apprentice of her own after only 2 years. As her family grew, Sara knew it was time to start her own business. For almost 2 years, she's been renting a salon suite, while her drive to grow and build is stronger than ever.
