It seems just about everyone hates what’s been pegged as “prom hair”—aka stiff, dated up-do’s better reserved for Facebook Flashbacks and 90's high school yearbooks.

As we're in the business of beautiful hair, we thought we'd highlight some of our picks for smokin' hot hair for prom and other celebratory events.

So if you’ve searched tirelessly for that perfect ‘do and still haven't found the one, let our edit below serve as a fantastic visual to share with your stylist or squad to match your 'do to your dress.

Avoid prom hair...at prom...with The Rule of 3T’s
— Team Bohyme

Whatever your vibe—avoid stiff, dated 'prom hair' by sticking to our rule of three T's: Touchable, Tousled & Tease N' Twist. We dissect below.

Touchable

Give hair a fresh and instantly modern vibe by keeping your style touchable and airy. Use products that give your style the appearance of floating on air. Think 'cloud like' and use that visual with your stylist. We're fond of lightweight, strong-hold hairsprays such as Kristin Ess' Refine Signature Finishing Spray. We love the hold and fragrance of this gem available at Target

Tousle

Stack hair in a messy (yet purposeful way) to create fullness and playfulness. Tousled hair is naturally flirty, so it never reads like you tried too hard and never runs the risk of appearing dated in photos. We suggest incorporating our clips-ins, tape-ins or seamless wefts for upping the glam factor

Tease N' Twist

Another easy tip (especially if styling a DIY) is to tease at the crown and simply twist strands softly into place in a backward motion. Let face-framing pieces dance along your features for a sultry look that'll be sure to get you tons of likes. Use a French crimping iron, medium barrel iron, or clip-less iron to frame strands along the face and create waves before pinning if your hair is stick straight.
